Hotel heaven in Hamburg

15 hotels to launch in 2017 adding up to over 2,696 rooms

Fifteen hotels are set to launch in Hamburg next year adding 2,696 new rooms to the city. The properties range from three to five star and are located throughout Germany’s second largest city, many with their own meeting and event spaces.

Highlights are as follows:

Fontenay (131 rooms, 5*) – Offering breathtaking views of the city’s famous Alster Lake, the Fontenay hotel is a new 5-star superior hotel set to open at the start of 2017. Located in its own private park in the city, the hotel’s conference facilities are across four rooms equipped with the latest in audio and visual technology. Designed by Hamburg-born star architect Jan Störmer, the hotel has a modern and innovative sculptural design featuring 131 rooms and suites.

Sir Nikolai Hotel (94 rooms, 5*) – Part of the Design Hotels portfolio, a 19th-century mansion is set to ‘bring a new kind of cool to Hamburg’. Sir Nikolai will offer 94 luxury guest rooms, suites and residences, as well as an in-house spa and IZAKAYA Asian restaurant. It is perfectly situated between Altstadt (Old Town), the city’s cultural nucleus, and Speicherstadt to the south, Hamburg’s historical quarter and UNESCO World Heritage site. Scheduled to open autumn 2017.

Hotel Pier Drei (212 rooms, 3*) – This hotel will be at the heart of KPTN (pronounced ‘captain’), a new district in the city. The owners include the Braun brothers – the creators of the number one tourist attraction in Germany – the Miniaturwunderland. Due to open in late 2017, the hotel will feature a “port stage” for concerts, plays and readings and a special creative area for children.

GINN Hotel Hamburg Elbspeicher (132 rooms, 4*) – Situated alongside the famous River Elbe, the hotel uses the latest technology with check ins and check outs via smartphone and tablet and is set to open in the spring. The hotel is located in a former warehouse and offers stunning views onto the River Elbe and the Port of Hamburg.

Stadthaushotel HafenCity (204 rooms, 3*) – A three-star hotel with 90 rooms, a restaurant with 90 seats, a conference and banquet hall as well as a meeting room. This is an integrative hotel project, employing mentally and physical and disabled people from the city. The hotel is also fully adapted for handicapped people. Stadthaushotel, scheduled to open in the spring, is located in HafenCity, the site of Europe’s largest inner-city development project. Also located in this area will be Innside Melia Hamburg HafenCity (207 rooms, 4*), set to open in the third quarter.

Holiday Inn Hamburg – City Nord (297 rooms, 4*) – At 18 storeys high the hotel offers superb views of Hamburg’s skyline. It’s also located close to the city’s airport and Congress Center Hamburg. Due to open in the first quarter of 2017. A Holiday Inn Express (104 rooms, 4*) is also due to open around the same time.

The other hotels set to open next year in Hamburg are Hampton by Hilton (161 rooms, 4*), Courtyard by Marriott (277 rooms, 4*), Hotel Stadthofe (130 rooms, 4* superior), Adina Apartment Hotel (202 rooms, 4*), Grand City Hotel Hamburg Mitte (250 rooms, 3*), Novum Style Hotel City East (100 rooms, 3*) and Ruby Hotel (298 rooms).

“Heightened demand among business and leisure travellers is prompting interest among investors, and up to 30 new hotels are due to open by 2019 – an investment of around one billion euros.”
