Virgin Atlantic Focus on Wellness

Virgin Atlantic has brought wellbeing into focus with the help of Specsavers Corporate Eyecare. The airline giant has a reputation for how well it looks after its customers and it’s clear that this caring attitude extends to its people as well. Virgin Atlantic arranged a wellbeing event and invited all members of staff to attend, which, along with eyecare expertise, offered advice on stopping smoking, alcohol awareness, HIV and AIDS awareness, safe sun and fitness guides.

Specsavers Corporate Eyecare attended the event to offer guidance and information on eyecare and the wider benefits it can offer to health and wellbeing. Laura Butler, key accounts manager at Specsavers Corporate Eyecare, provided a vision screening facility at the event. Laura explained: ‘The Optec Vision Screener offers visual acuity tests. This is not a full eye examination but it can prove a useful tool in indicating any problems with distance vision, essential for anyone who drives. A full eye examination can provide a great deal more information about other eye and vision problems but also about much wider health and wellbeing issues. By viewing the back of the eye, an optometrist can detect and monitor conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, risk of stroke, raised cholesterol, arthritis, brain tumour, and more.’

Josie Lazenby, senior manager occupational health and wellbeing at Virgin Atlantic, said: ‘We take the health and wellbeing of our people very seriously. The wellbeing event enabled us to pass on a lot of useful information and the eyecare element was very enlightening in terms of the number of beneficial factors it can have for wider health.’

Virgin Atlantic provides employee eyecare through the use of Specsavers’ eVouchers. These are a simple way to offer eyecare, specifically tailored to the needs of employees.

Laura continued: ‘I always enjoy this sort of event. It is great to meet the people who benefit from our eVouchers and it is always good to be able to remind employees of the importance of eye health and the benefits of eye examinations. We are very grateful to Virgin Atlantic for allowing us to do so.’
