A hilltop hotel that’s home to Germany’s smallest 5-star hotel, an alpine hut, a historic ice cellar turned wine bar, and a hotel garden filled with beehives – these are just some of the more unusual options for planners when exploring the greater Hamburg area.

Venues in the Hamburg suburbs are characterised by romantic nineteenth century style villas, old fisherman’s houses, charming hillside gardens and hip beaches with views of the iconic River Elbe.

A new online guide, launched by the Hamburg Convention Bureau, explores some of the many picturesque and unusual out of the town venues.

Here are some of the highlights from ‘Prime locations along the Elbe for successful meetings in Hamburg’ – Hamburg Convention Bureau’s new guide:

  • The Süllberg hotel is named after the hill it’s located on and is also Germany’s smallest 5-star hotel. The historic building has conference areas with an overall capacity of up to 500 guests and a 400m2 Art Nouveau ballroom. There’s also an alpine hut open for groups in the winter, Michelin-starred restaurant Seven Seas and market-fresh food at the Deck 7 Market Restaurant.
  • The 18th century Hotel Louis C. Jacob, was transformed into a modern luxury hotel about 25 years ago by its current owners. In the process, a vintage ice cellar made of brick was discovered that now, with its vaulted ceilings, serves as a special setting for wine tastings and other events.
  • Landhaus Flottbek has 25 cosy rooms, an airy conference room and a beehive-filled garden which delivers honeycombs for the breakfast buffet each morning. Up to 40 guests can be entertained at the rustic Club-House next door or on the terrace for summer BBQs.

Florian Gerdes, Marketing Manager Conventions at Hamburg Convention Bureau, explains:

“Hamburg’s suburbs are a winning combination of relaxed elegance and beautiful natural surroundings – a combination that we’re certain will win the hearts of meeting planners and create many memorable moments. Our guide offers a glimpse into the area’s unique venues and landscapes and we hope this provides inspiration for business event professionals.”
