In its latest effort to attract workers, Chipotle announced Tuesday that it will cover the tuition of its employees to get technology or business degrees from certain colleges. “Chipotle recognizes that financial barriers can be one of the biggest obstacles that impede our employees from achieving their fullest potential,” Marissa Andrada, the company’s chief people officer, said in a press release. “We are proud to launch this opportunity for debt-free degrees by providing free tuition to help our employees excel in all areas in their lives, both in and out of Chipotle.” Employees become eligible for the program after being employed by the chain restaurant for 120 days. After that, they will able to choose from 75 technology and business degrees from five universities: the University of Arizona, Bellevue University, Brandman University, Southern New Hampshire University and Wilmington University. Additionally, CNN reports that employees must work at least 15 hours a week and stay at least six months after obtaining their degree to remain eligible for the debt-free program. The program is an expansion of Chipotle’s Cultivate Education benefits program, which already reimburses up to $5,250 of college tuition a year from any school, among other educational benefits. This announcement follows a move by the company in June that offers an extra month of pay to hourly workers that meet certain criteria.
