Sodexo Engage the UK’s leading expert in employee and consumer engagement, has introduced an eco-card option to its prepaid offering as part of its commitment to reduce its impact on the environment, and prevent waste, – with a target to be carbon neutral in our direct operations by 2025.

According to UK Finance, in October 2021, 98m people in the UK had debit cards and 60m people had credit cards. These cards have an impact on plastic waste and CO2 emissions every year. The introduction of this product comes at a time when more consumers are looking to reduce their impact on the planet, and growing public concern with eliminating plastic waste from ending up in landfills.

In partnership with Nitecrest, the leading manufacturer in plastic cards, Sodexo’s prepaid solution will be made from recycled PVC (R-PVC) – manufactured from 75-80% recycled plastic. New clients who want a branded Visa pre-paid card solution, will now have the option to use these R-PVC cards.

In 2020, Sodexo joined CDP’s A List of global climate change leaders delivering key progress on its carbon strategy. More recently, Sodexo joined RE100 committing to 100% Renewable Energy in its operations by 2025.

Last year, Sodexo announced a comprehensive roadmap to net zero and decarbonisation of the business in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The team has been working with international experts, the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), to ensure that its net zero strategy is thorough, impactful and transparent.
